The National Bank Open, formerly Rogers Cup

Khachanov into the final four

August 9, 2019

Karen Khachanov of Russia easily disposed of second seed Alexander Zverev to reach the semifinals of Rogers Cup presented by National Bank, closing out the one-sided match in just 74 minutes.

Today, in the rivals’ fourth head-to-head, Khachanov brought the win-loss record to 2-2 after emerging victorious from their last two confrontations.

Looking listless, Zverev played a match similar to his lackluster performances of late. Shaky on serve, he hit only three aces, made eight double faults and couldn’t find a single break.

As for Khachanov, he racked up five aces without double faulting. He made 81% of his first serves and capitalized on three of the eight breaks Zverev offered him. Unperturbed by the German’s fits of rage, Khachanov scored 61 points (versus 43 for Zverev). On Saturday afternoon, Khachanov faces his countryman Daniil Medvedev, who has been dangerous all week.
