The National Bank Open, formerly Rogers Cup

New record for Rafa

August 9, 2019

On Thursday night, when Rafael Nadal ousted Guido Pella from Rogers Cup presented by National Bank at IGA Stadium, he also secured a brand-new record by claiming his 379th Masters 1000 win—one more than Roger Federer. The King of Clay already holds the most Masters 1000 crowns with 34 titles (33 for Novak Djokovic).

It took the first seed just over 90 minutes (1:41) to rack up his fourth win in as many matches against the World No. 24 without ever dropping a set.

He may not have played the best match of his career, but Nadal was able to contain the damage. He closed out the match with 66 points (54 for Pella) and 3 breaks (1 for Pella).

On Friday night, he will go head-to-head against seventh seed Fabio Fognini, who is having a superb season as a member of the Top 10. He fought his way into the quarters with a two-set victory over the tenacious Adrian Mannarino of France in just under two hours (1:46).
