This Week in Tennis: Auger-Aliassime Sets Canadian Record

Félix Auger-Aliassime set a Canadian record for most tour-level singles titles by a Canadian on Sunday by defeating Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 7-6(4) to win the Open Occitanie in Montpellier.

Auger-Aliassime’s ninth-career ATP title put him above former world No. 3 Milos Raonic, who won eight over his storied career. He also surpassed the 4,000 ace mark during the match.

The 25-year-old Montreal native hoisted the trophy in Montpellier for the second-straight year and vaulted himself back to No. 6 on the ATP Tour.

“[Mannarino] is always a really tough opponent to play, for all players. That’s why I think myself and all our peers have so much respect for him, his career and the challenges he proposes on the court,” Auger-Aliassime said in his post-match interview. “I knew it was going to be a tough match today, I’m very happy. It’s amazing to win here again, I’m thrilled with my whole week and especially today.”

It was Auger-Aliassime’s 21st tour-level final and 13th indoors. Eight of his nine career titles have come indoors.

Auger-Aliassime will next hit the court in Rotterdam at the ABN AMRO Open, where he will take on Alexei Popyrin in the first round.

Bejlek Wins First Career Title

Sara Bejlek completed a surprise run in Abu Dhabi with a 7-6(5), 6-1 win over Ekaterina Alexandrova to win her first WTA title.

The 20-year-old also had wins over 24th-ranked Jelena Ostapenko and No. 20 Clara Tauson on her run to the championship. The win over Tauson was the first top-20 win of her career.

Bejlek entered the tournament as the No. 101 but saw her rank soar to a career-best No. 38 with the win.

Over in Ostrava, Great Britain’s Katie Boulter won her first title of the season, and fourth of her career, with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 comeback win over Tamara Korpatsch. Boulter previously won titles in San Diego in 2024 and back-to-back titles in Nottingham in 2023 and 2024.

Sorana Cirstea also won the fourth title of her career with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Emma Raducanu at the Transylvania Open. Cirstea became the third Romanian to win a title on home soil. It was a particularly special win for the 35-year–old, who announced that 2026 will be her last season of professional tennis.

“Someone please pinch me, because this is a dream come true,” Cirstea said after the match. “I still can’t believe that I’m holding the trophy as champion here in Cluj. I am so, so happy, I cannot describe it in words. I am so grateful for everything I lived this week.”
