WTA Montreal Live Blog: Qualifying Competition Concludes on IGA Family Weekend

Collins, Giorgi headline final round of qualifying as players look to earn a spot in the main draw in Montreal

4:11 p.m. ET – Defending champ Giorgi into the main draw, Collins claws her way in too

The two biggest names in the women's singles qualifying draw didn't have it all their own way today, but their pedigree as former top players saw them overcome stiff challenges in Sunday's action.

Camila Giorgi, the 2021 champion in Montreal, defeated Ashlyn Krueger in three sets, while Danielle Collins backed up her win over Eugenie Bouchard in the first round with a hard-fought battle over Emina Bektas, 7-5, 6-7(10), 7-5.

12:37 p.m. ET – Top two seeds the first to reach the main draw in Montreal

No. 1 seed Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine and American No. 2 seed Alycia Parks are the first two qualifiers of the day, with Parks brushing aside Cristina Bucsa, 6-1, 6-2 and Tsurenko cruising past Elizabeth Mandlik, 6-4, 6-2.

With three Canadians slated to play qualifiers in the first round, there's a good chance one of these in-form players might land a Court Central designation when main-draw action kicks off on Monday.
