Andreescu Set to Headline Day One of Main Draw: Follow the Live Results from Toronto

The first round of main draw play gets underway on Tuesday at Sobeys Stadium, with two former champions featuring on Centre Court.

Follow along as results are updated throughout the day.

Tuesday, Aug. 6 - Round One

CENTRE COURT starts at 12:30 pm

  • Elina Svitolina (UKR) d. Shelby Rogers (USA) 6-0, 6-2
    • The 2017 champion won the first nine games played on Centre Court at the 2024 National Bank Open to take an insurmountable lead in her opening match.
  • [12] Victoria Azarenka d. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2, 6-2
    • Azarenka dominates one of the higher-profile first-round encounters, not dropping serve in the match.

Not before 7:00 pm

  • Lesia Tsurenko (UKR) d. [WC] Bianca Andreescu (CAN) 0-6, 6-3, 6-4
    • An absolute roller-coaster, Tsurenko managed to turn it around after dropping the first seven games and then hung on in the decider despite a comeback attempt from Andreescu closing the gap from 5-0 to 5-4 before the Ukrainian served it out.
  • [Q] Greet Minnen (BEL) d. Sloane Stephens (USA) 6-2, 6-2
    • Minnen got off to a quick start and had an answer for everything the former US Open champion threw at her, keeping her foot on the gas for a shocker to end the day.

CASHMERE GRANDSTAND starts at 11:00 am

  • [11] Marta Kostyuk (UKR) d. Tatjana Maria (GER) 6-0, 6-2
    • The Ukrainian lost just one point on serve in the second set, needing less than an hour to become the first main-draw winner at the 2024 National Bank Open.
  • [Q] Yafan Wang (CHN) d. Sofia Kenin (USA) 7-5, 7-6(3)
    • Kenin's comebacks in both sets come up short as Wang gets the job done in straight sets.
  • Karolina Pliskova (CZE) d. Nadia Podoroska (ARG) 6-4, 7-6(10)
    • Podoroska could not take advantage of having broken the mighty Pliskova serve early in both sets. The Czech saved three set points in the epic second-set tiebreak to close the match out in two sets.

Not before 5:00 pm

  • [LL] Taylor Townsend (USA) d. [16] Dayana Yastremska (UKR) 6-3, 3-1 ret.
    • Townsend got lucky twice on Monday, first getting called in when Yulia Putintseva withdrew, then getting into the second round when Yastremska retired, although the American was up a set and a break at the time.
  • [10] Anna Kalinskaya d. [Q] Louisa Chirico (USA) 6-2, 6-3
    • Kalinskaya broke serve in the opening game and, despite some back-and-forth in the second set, was able to keep the initiative for a two-set win.

COURT 1 starts at 11:00 am

  • Magdalena Frech (POL) d. Anastasia Potapova 4-6, 6-3, 6-0
    • From a set and a break down at 1-2 in the second, Frech finished strong by winning 10 of the last 11 games.
  • [WC] Ariana Arseneault (CAN)/Mia Kupres (CAN) d. [6] Ulrikke Eikeri (NOR)/Ellen Perez (AUS) 1-6, 7-6(5), 10-5
    • The Granby champions mount a stunning comeback, playing two strong tiebreaks to eliminate the first seeded team at the 2024 tournament.

Not before 2:00 pm

  • [WC] Bianca Fernandez (CAN)/Leylah Fernandez (CAN) d. [5] Demi Schuurs (NED)/Luisa Stefani (BRA) 6-2, 6-4
    • The Fernandez sisters continued the great Canadian doubles results on Court 1, coming out hot against the No. 5 seeds and then breaking at the end to seal the upset.
  • Hanyu Guo (CHN)/Makoto Ninomiya (JPN) d. Shuko Aoyama (JPN)/Eri Hozumi (JPN) 7-6(9), 6-3
    • Guo and Ninomiya squeaked out a tiebreak before scoring a pair of breaks in the second to claim victory.

COURT 4 starts at 11:00 am

  • [Q] Moyuka Uchijima (JPN) d. Viktoriya Tomova (BUL) 7-6(4), 6-2
    • After back-to-back comebacks in qualifying, Uchijima slammed the door with three breaks in the second set to get through in two.
  • Catherine Harrison (USA)/Ashlyn. Krueger (USA) d. Harriet Dart (GBR)/Clara Tauson (DEN) 3-6, 6-0, 10-5
    • The Americans turn on the jets after dropping the opening set, racing out to early leads in the second and the match tiebreak.

After suitable rest

  • Magda Linette (POL)/Peyton Stearns (USA) d. Moyuka Uchijima (JPN)/Yue Yuan (CHN) 7-6(5), 6-2
    • Linette and Stearns narrowly avoid blowing a big lead in the opening set tiebreak before hanging on to their lone break in the second set.
  • Xinyu Jiang (CHN)/Fang-Hsien Wu (TPE) d. Miyu Kato (JPN)/Aldila Sutjiadi (INA) 6-4, 6-3
    • One break in each set was plenty for Jiang and Wu, who protected their serve well in the straight-set win.

Court 3 starts at 3:15 pm

  • Kristina Mladenovic (FRA) / Shuai Zhang (CHN) d. Quinn Gleason (USA)/Ingrid Martins (BRA) 6-4, 6-4
    • Mladenovic and Zhang trailed by a break in both sets but finished strong, rallying and getting the decisive break in the final game of each set.
Not before 5:00 pm
  • Giuliana Olmos (MEX)/Jessica Pegula (USA) d. [8] Cristina Bucsa (ESP)/Yifan Xu (CHN) 6-0, 6-1
