Eight spots are up for grabs on this holiday Monday in Toronto as the qualifying draw comes to its conclusion at Sobeys Stadium.

Monday, Aug. 5 - Qualifying Round Two

CASHMERE GRANDSTAND start at 11:00 am

  • [1] Katie Volynets (USA) d. [WC] Stacey Fung (CAN) 6-1, 6-3
    • Volynets set the tone by winning the first nine points of the match and never looked back, breaking in every single Fung service game.
  • Louisa Chirico (USA) d. [5] Harriet Dart (GBR) 4-6, 6-6 ret.
    • Heartbreak for Dart as she broke for a 6-5 lead in the second set but did not win another point, getting broken to love when she served for the match and then retiring with a leg injury down 0-2 in the tiebreak.
  • [8] Ashlyn Krueger (USA) d. [ALT] Carlo Zhao (CAN) 6-1, 6-0 
    • After being broken in the opening game, it was all Krueger as she won 12 straight games to eliminate the last Canadian in qualifying.

COURT 4 start at 11:00 am

  • [7] Bernardo Pera (USA) d. [10] Nao Hibino (JPN) 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(3)
    • Serving at 5-6 in the decider, Pera saved five match points before taking the match in a tiebreak.
  • [4] Yafan Wang (CHN) d. [12] Chloe Paquet (FRA) 6-3, 7-5
    • Wang looked like she would be pushed to a third set when she trailed 2-5 in the second, but reeled off the last five games in a row.
  • [9] Erika Andreeva d. [6] Taylor Townsend (USA) 7-6(8), 6-4
    •  Andreeva played better at the business end of both sets to book her spot in the main draw. 

COURT 3 start at 12:30 pm

  • [2] Moyuka Uchijima (JPN) d. Kayla Day (USA) 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2
    • Another day, another comeback for Uchijima, who once again rallied from a set and break down before cruising through the deciding set.
  • [3] Greet Minnen (BEL) d. Destinee Aiava (AUS) 4-6, 6-4, 6-2
    • An inopportune break cost Minnen the opening set, but from there she was able to take control and hang on for the victory.
