Friday, Aug. 9 - Third Round
CENTRE COURT starts at 12:30 PM
- [LL] Taylor Townsend (USA) d. [4] Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) 6-2, 6-1
- Townsend took full advantage of an error-filled performance from Ostapenko, breaking serve six times on her way to her first WTA 1000 quarter-final.
Not before 2:00 pm
- [3] Jessica Pegula (USA) d. (Q) Ashlyn Krueger (USA) 6-2, 6-4
- While she admitted post-match to struggling with the conditions, Pegula had a clean read on her opponent's serve breaking all four times in the first set and taking her compatriot's last three service games to advance.
Not before 7:00 pm
- [14] Diana Shnaider d. [1] Coco Gauff (USA)
- The top seed struggled to find her range and the errors piled up as the match went along. Shnaider was happy to take advantage, winning eight of the last nine games.
- [2] Aryna Sabalenka d. Katie Boulter (GBR) 6-3, 6-3
- Sabalenka simply had too much firepower for the Brit, saving every break point she faced and blowing Boulter off the court in the rallies
CASHMERE GRANDSTAND starts at 12:30 PM
- [8] Emma Navarro (USA) d. [11] Marta Kostyuk (UKR) 7-5, 7-5
- No lead was safe in this one as Kostyuk blew a 5-2 lead in the first set and Navarro had 4-1 and 5-3 advantages in the second, but the American managed to finally put her opponent away on the second attempt at serving it out.
- Amanda Anisimova (USA) d. [10] Anna Kalinskaya 6-2 ret.
- Kalinskaya seemed to be struggling throughout the first set and had to retire after Anisimova took the opener.
Not before 5:00 pm
- [6] Liudmila Samsonova d. Elise Mertens (BEL) 6-2, 6-4
- The 2023 runner-up rode her serve, which was not broken despite facing six break points in the match, as she did not give an inch to Mertens in the straight-set win.
After suitable rest
- [1] Gabriela Dabrowski (CAN)/Erin Routliffe (NZL) d. Magda Linette (POL)/Peyton Stearns (USA) 6-7(0), 706(3), 10-5
- Both pairs struggled to hold onto their serve, especially in the first set, but the top seeds survived a scare by breaking the Polish-American duo as they served for the match in the second set and then claiming the last two breakers.
After suitable rest
- Kristina Mladenovic (FRA)/Shuai Zhang (CHN) d. [4] Elise Mertens (BEL)/Asia Muhammad (USA) 6-0, 6-4
- Mladenovic and Zhang win the first eight games to start the match and never look back.
COURT 1 starts at 02:00 PM
- [7] Sofia Kenin (USA)/Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA) d. Xinyu Jiang (CHN)/Fang-Hsien Wu (TPE) 4-6, 7-6(8), 10-1
- Kenin and Mattek-Sands make their opponents pay for missing five match points in the second set, dominating the match tiebreak.
Not before 4:00 pm
- Peyton Stearns (USA) d. [12] Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 4-2 ret.
- A back-and-forth battle ended abruptly when Azarenka suffered a lower-body injury.
After suitable rest
- [3] Caroline Dolehide (USA)/Desirae Krawczyk (USA) d. Giuliana Olmos (MEX)/Jessica Pegula (USA) 7-6(5), 7-6(6)
- There was little between the two pairs on serve, Dolehide and Krawczyk just played better in the breakers to squeak out the win.
