Welcome to This Week in Tennis, where we catch up on all the latest and biggest stories from the ATP and WTA Tours.
Alcaraz wins Monte Carlo
Carlos Alcaraz won the Monte Carlo Masters by defeating Lorenzo Musetti 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. It’s Alcaraz’s second title of 2025 and the sixth Masters 1000 championship of his career.
The 21-year-old will jump to No. 2 in the world rankings following his victory.
Musetti struggled with a right leg injury that required treatment in the third set while down 0-3. The 23-year-old, who is now ranked No. 11 after his performance in Monte Carlo, was playing in his first 1000-level final after defeating Alex de Minaur and defending Stefanos Tsitsipas en route to the final.
“This is not the way I want to win a match, I really feel sorry for him,” Alcaraz said. “Just really happy to have won the Monte Carlo for the first time. It's been a really difficult week, with a lot of difficult situations, I'm really proud of myself how I dealt with everything.”

Canada Falls at BJK Cup
In the decisive doubles match, Canadians Kayla Cross and Rebecca Marino fell to Ena Shibahara and Shuko Aoyama 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 as Japan advanced to the finals at the Billie Jean King Cup.
Victoria Mboko put Canada up 1-0 with a singles win over Shibahara, but Japan evened the score when Moyuka Uchijima beat Marina Stakusic in the second singles match to set up the deciding doubles match.
“Overall, I really do believe it was a great day. It was a very tough day, all matches were very close,” Canadian captain Heidi El Tabakh said. “I’m sure we’re all disappointed we lost, but I’m very, very proud of every single girl on the team and the effort they put in today. We fought till the end, and it just didn’t go our way.”
Japan will join the United States, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Spain, Great Britain, Italy and China in the finals in Shenzen, China in September. The draw for the finals will take place on May 12.
