This Week in Tennis: Andreeva Leaps into Top 10 with win in Dubai

Welcome to This Week in Tennis, where we catch up on all the latest and biggest stories from the ATP and WTA Tours.

Andreeva Makes Top 10 Debut

Mirra Andreeva defeated Clara Tauson 7-6 (1), 6-1 to win the Dubai Tennis Championships. It’s the first 1000-level title for Andreeva, who at 17 years old becomes the youngest 1000-level winner in WTA Tour history. The victory will vault her into the Top 10 for the first time in her career and she becomes the first 17-year-old to reach the Top 10 since Nicole Vaidisova in 2007.

Andreeva stunned world No. 2 Iga Swiatek in the quarter-final and world No. 7 Elena Rybakina in the semis en route to the final. She also defeated 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the second round.

Rublev Wins Qatar Open

Andrey Rublev defeated Jack Draper 7-5, 5-7, 6-1 to win the Qatar Open for the second time in his career. It’s Rublev's 17th career title, and he claims his first tour-level win since the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid last year.

Rublev overcame a tough road to claim the title, winning a trio of three-set matches in three days to win the tournament. The 27-year-old defeated second seed Alex de Minaur 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (8) in 2:39 to advance to the semis, where he then defeated Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (5) in 2:46 to advance to the final.

Auger-Aliassime fell to 1-6 in his career against Rublev. The Montreal native was denied the opportunity to compete for his third title of the season after winning in Montpellier and Adelaide.
