The second batch of quarter-finals at the National Bank Open are on the slate for Tuesday night and it is a mouthwatering lineup.

Both matches feature decorated stars, with eight Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal between the four competitors. But only two can advance to tomorrow's semifinals.

The doubles quarter-finals will wrap in the afternoon as well before the first semifinal takes place out on the Grandstand.

- Rhythm was not a word that applied to this match. The two teams combined for 10 breaks of serve on 21 break points across the two sets. The first set was the wilder one, with Mihalikova and Nicholls breaking three times in a row to go up 5-2, only to fail to serve out the set twice and find themselves level at 5-5. They proceeded to break for a fourth time in the 11th game and the third time was the charm to serve it out. They then broke to start the second set, making it five breaks in their last six return games. After both teams missed multiple break-point chances early in the set, Mertens and Shnaider managed to break back to level at 3-3. A late slip ultimately cost them again, though, as they were broken in the ninth game and this time, Mihalikova and Nicholls only needed one chance to serve it out.
