2026 National Bank Open Singles Final: Iga Swiatek's Victory As It Happened

The two major champions faced off at Sobeys Stadium with the trophy on the line Thursday evening and it was the Pole taking it home with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 win.

It was the 13th meeting between Swiatek and Rybakina, with the pair having split the previous 12. Rybakina had won the last two meetings, both on hard courts, including their lone 2026 encounter at the 2026 Australian Open. Prior to the Kazakhstani's win at the WTA Finals in Riyadh last November, Swiatek had won five of their previous six meetings.

Swiatek led their head-to-head on hard courts 5-4 heading into the Toronto final and won their only other meeting in a final, which was also WTA 1000 final on hard courts in Doha in 2024.

Rybakina is serving and the final is underway. 

1-0 Swiatek - BREAK

A disastrous start from Rybakina. A brutal drop shot attempt followed by back-to-back double faults gifts Swiatek a break in the opening game.

2-0 Swiatek

Swiatek gets the job done to hold her opening game and consolidate the early break.

2-1 Swiatek

A much cleaner game from Rybakina. She found her range and got an easy hold to love to get on the board.

4-2 Swiatek

This time it was Swiatek's turn for a poorly-timed double fault, missing both deliveries to go down 15-40. However, Rybakina sent backhands long on both break points and the Pole escaped with a hold.

5-2 Swiatek - BREAK

Rybakina pays the price for missing her chances. She lets a 30-love lead slip away and misses a forehand to give Swiatek a break point. The Pole takes advantage, ripping a forehand down the line that the world No. 2 can't handle to move within a game of taking the set.

FIRST SET SWIATEK 6-2

Swiatek finishes off a crisp first set with a hold to love.

6-2, 2-2

Routine start to the second set. Rybakina got pushed to deuce in the opening game but got through unscathed. Other than that, it has been business as usual.

6-2, 3-2 Swiatek - BREAK

Errors starting to creep back in for Rybakina. She sprays a backhand wide to go down 15-40 and then nets a backhand to give away the break. Rybakina has been the comeback queen at the 2026 National Bank Open but she needs to pull some magic out of her hat now.

6-2, 4-2 Swiatek

The Pole is looking very comfortable out there. Routine hold to consolidate the break. 

6-2 5-3 Swiatek

Iga still unflappable on serve. She sending every ball back with interest and making life very uncomfortable for Rybakina. The six-time major champion is now just a game away from the title.

GAME, SET, MATCH SWIATEK 6-2, 6-3

No need to serve it out for Swiatek. She leaps on Rybakina's serve one last time, getting to swings at championship points. She missed a backhand on the first but made up for it on the second, ripping one down the line to clinch her first title of the season.
