Katerina Siniakova and Shuai Zhang capped off an impressive 2026 National Bank Open presented by Rogers campaign with the Toronto title.

The top seeds defeated Sara Errani and Nicole Melichar-Martinez 6-3, 6-4 in Thursday’s final, becoming the first team since Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in 2017 to win the NBO women’s doubles title without dropping a set.

The opener wasn’t easy for Siniakova and Zhang despite the score. The Adelaide champions failed to convert on their first three break points while needing to save five. However, the Czech-Chinese duo only needed break serve twice in the match on five attempts to lead them to their second title of the season as a tandem.

It was a pressure-filled start to the doubles final. Each of the first four games were settled via sudden-death deuce, but the serving team prevailed on every occasion as the opening set remained level. After Siniakova and Zhang saved a pair of break points at 3-3, 30-40, the duo had the same opportunity in the ensuing game. The Czech-Chinese team converted on the first try, allowing the pair to serve out the first at 5-3.

With Zhang serving, the world No. 8 fired back-to-back unreturned serves at 30-15 to move her and Siniakova one step closer to the winner’s circle.

The top seeds didn’t let Errani and Melichar-Martinez find an opening in the second as Siniakova and Zhang cruised through their service games, conceding three points in as many games. The Czech-Chinese duo could soon sniff the title after breaking to 15 in the seventh game and consolidating to bring them within a game of the trophy.

Errani and Melichar-Martinez held to stay alive and ask the question of Siniakova and Zhang as they served for the championship. The Chinese served out the second just as comfortably as she did in the first, crowning her and the Czech as 2026 National Bank Open doubles champions.

“It’s the dream coming true. Last year, I saw someone win the trophy. I wanted this trophy,” Zhang said. “Sometimes you really like something, but you couldn't get it. But you can keep training, working hard, and, yeah, next year you will get it. I'm super lucky I have [Siniakova] helping me to win this nice trophy.”

Siniakova hoisted her fourth WTA 1000 trophy of the season and first alongside the Chinese. Zhang enters the National Bank Open winner’s circle this year after falling in the final last year in Montreal.

“I think we showed that we really played our tennis. We were really aggressive. We felt maybe not every time the greatest, but we felt really good on the court,” Siniakova said. “We were trying to improve every day with good practices. I just felt like we were doing the right things, and it really suits the game. I'm really happy that we could win the title like this.”

Siniakova will increase her lead as the world No. 1, with the Czech now just four weeks away from surpassing Liezel Huber for second-most total weeks spent as doubles No. 1. Zhang moves up one spot in the WTA doubles rankings to No. 7.
