Aryna Sabalenka started her NBO campaign with a quick 6-3, 6-3 win over Moyuka Uchijima to begin the night session on Centre Court. Uchijima put a scare into the world No. 1 early by opening with a quick break and consolidating to go up 2-0. However, the four-time Grand Slam winner was undeterred and went on to win six of the next seven games to take the first. A wild second set saw the women trade breaks for the first five games, but Sabalenka would eventually settle things down, producing another 6-3 for the straight-sets win. 

Former world No. 1 Iga Swiatek was in excellent form to kick off her tournament, dispatching of Sara Bejlek 6-0, 6-3 in straight sets. Aside from a gritty 22-minute Swiatek service game that saw 12 deuces, the Pole dominated the matinee affair on Centre Court to cruise into the third round.

After an impressive opening-round win, Canadian Katherine Sebov was unable to produce a repeat performance against Marta Kostyuk, losing to the world No. 11 in straight sets 7-6 (4), 6-0. Read more. 

Other top seeds moving on Tuesday included Elina Svitolina, Diana Shnaider and Madison Keys. Eighth seed Amanda Anisimova advanced via walkover after her opponent Lanlana Tararudee withdrew prior to the match.

The draw for the women’s doubles tournament was conducted on Tuesday afternoon.

The heavily anticipated pairing of Venus Williams and rising star Alexandra Eala will open against Miyu Kato and Liumila Samsonova on centre court on Thursday night.

Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski learned her path in the women’s doubles draw on Tuesday. Partnered with Ekaterina Alexandrova due to an injury to Luisa Stefani, the pair will open their tournament in a star-studded opening match against Coco Gauff and Caty McNally. 

The all-Canadian pair of Bianca Andreescu and Kayla Cross will take on Ulrikke Eikeri and Quinn Gleason in the first round. The Fernandez sisters, Leylah Annie and Bianca Jolie, will open against the sixth-seeded pair of Elise Mertens and Diana Shnaider.

Around The Grounds

There was a buzz around the grounds for the start of the second round, with the morning activities headlined by Tennis Talk with 34-time WTA Tour winner Elise Mertens and her coach Chris Heyman, two-time Grand Slam doubles champion Vania King, and Tennis Canada’s Director of Coach Education and Services, Marie-France Mercier.

WTA stars continued to mingle with the fans on the grounds, highlighted by 2025 NBO champion Victoria Mboko signing autographs and speaking with fans despite being unable to compete at her home tournament. Sofia Kenin and Karolina Pliskova also dropped by for an autograph and Q&A session. 

It was Rogers First Set Day at the NBO. To celebrate 25 years of partnership with Rogers members of the Rogers family held a ceremony on Centre Court with Mboko, Tennis Canada CEO Gavin Ziv, and Tournament Director Karl Hale.

The night’s entertainment was provided by musician Daniel Humphreys, who provided a lively concert for fans on the TC Main Stage ahead of the night session on Centre Court.
