Victoria Mboko set to begin National Bank Open title defence on Wednesday, August 5

Canadian and World No. 9 Victoria Mboko will begin her defence of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers singles title during the night session on Wednesday, August 5.

Tickets are now on sale for the Canadian’s first match in Toronto

"I can’t wait to return to the National Bank Open and to play in front of a home crowd again,” said Mboko. “I grew up with this tournament, and it will always hold a place in my heart, especially after my success in Montreal last year. It’s special to play in Canada and the support of the fans always spurs me on to give even more on the court. To do that in Toronto, so close to where I grew up, is going to feel amazing and I’d love to see Sobeys Stadium packed out on August 5.”

“Vicky’s run at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montreal last year captured the hearts and minds of sports fans across the country,” said Karl Hale, Tournament Director of the National Bank Open – Toronto. “We are so excited to welcome her back to Toronto, her hometown, as our tournament’s reigning champion. It’s been an incredible 12 months for her, and we know our fans can’t wait to see her in action at Sobeys Stadium, starting on Wednesday, August 5. We like to say that the National Bank Open is the fuel of tennis in Canada, and showcasing a Canadian star like Vicky on home soil is going to serve as the inspiration for more people to pick up a racquet, which is what this is all about.”

Fans can purchase tickets for Wednesday, August 5th’s night session at this link. Mboko’s path to retain her title will be determined by the official draw, set to take place on Friday, July 31.

The Canadian made history at last year’s National Bank Open in Montreal, capturing her first-career WTA title in front of a Canadian crowd at IGA Stadium. In doing so, she became the first wild card to win the tournament in the Open Era after Monica Seles (1995) and just the third Canadian to win the singles title since 1969 (Faye Urban, 1969 and Bianca Andreescu, 2019)
