Learner Tien
Welcome to This Week in Tennis, where we catch up on all the latest and biggest stories from the ATP and WTA Tours.
Learner Tien captured the first clay title of his career with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Mariano Navone in the Geneva Open final on Sunday.
Tien entered the tournament with a subpar 4-9 record on clay but was on top of his game throughout the tournament, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alex Michelsen, and Alexander Bublik en route to the final.
"Last year, I really struggled on this surface. Coming into this year, I was really trying to get last year out of my mind,” Tien said. “But people around me are very supportive, and they had more belief in me than I did in myself. I am really happy to win my first clay title here.”
Tien jumps to a career-high rank of No. 18 following his second-career title and will enter Roland-Garros with newfound confidence, looking to win a match for the first time at the year’s second major.

Canadian Victoria Mboko was unable to capture her first career clay-court title as she was upset by American Emma Navarro 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 in the Internationaux de Strasbourg final on Saturday.
The title was Navarro’s first in 15 months and her first career trophy on clay. The 25-year-old reached a career-high of No. 8 last season but a tough start to 2026, due to illness and injury, dropped her down to No. 39 entering Strasbourg, her lowest rank since the end of the 2023 season.
"It's kind of been a little bit of a rocky year and a half or so, but I think we put in a lot of really good work," Navarro said. “I feel like myself, I feel like I'm enjoying myself on court and playing in the way I want to play, and playing with a lot of gratitude.”
Navarro earned her seventh Top 10 win by defeating the ninth-ranked Mboko and has now won five consecutive tour-level matches for the first time since making a run to the US Open semifinals in 2024.

She will now head to Roland-Garros to battle Janice Tjen in the first round.
Mboko will also head to Roland-Garros for her second appearance at the Paris Grand Slam, where she will take on 20-year-old Nikola Bartunkova in the first round.
Fellow Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski also reached the final in Strasbourg and, along with partner Luisa Stefani, secured their second title of the season with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Ulrikke Eikeri and Quinn Gleason.
The pair will head to Roland-Garros as the fourth-seeded duo.
