KOOLHOF AND SKUPSKI TAKE THE DOUBLES CROWN

On Sunday night, Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands and Neal Skupski of Great Britain won the doubles final of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers at IGA Stadium in Montréal.

They defeated Daniel Evans of Great Britain and John Peers of Australia 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 in a fast-paced 87-minute match.

The champions are doubles masters. Koolhof, 33, is No.4 in the ATP doubles rankings and Skupski is No.5.

They secured their sixth title of the season, including two Masters 1000 (Montréal and Miami).

Evans and Peers are more of an uneven team.

Evans is primarily a singles player who sometimes competes in doubles events to improve his serves, volleys and returns.

Peers is a dedicated doubles player. The 34-year-old is No.13 in doubles but has risen as high as No.3. He has 26 doubles titles, including the 2017 Australian Open, 2018 Canadian Open, 2021 Indian Wells Masters, 2016 and 2017 ATP Finals, 2016 Paris Masters and 2018 Shanghai Masters.

The winners receive a cheque for US$280,803, and their rivals earn $152,550.
