Day two at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers was a scorcher, but that didn’t stop tennis fans from flocking in large numbers to IGA Stadium in Montreal for the first round of qualifying and some exciting off-court activities as part of IGA Family Weekend.
A THIRST-QUENCHING WIN FOR DIALLO
On the court, Canadian Gabriel Diallo scored the biggest surprise of the day and the biggest win of his career by eliminating world no. 59 James Duckworth of Australia 6-3, 7-6(5) to move within one win of the main draw. On Sunday, he’ll face Hugo Gaston of France.
Other winners on Saturday included familiar names like Fabio Fognini, Benoit Paire, and the fast-rising Brit Jack Draper.
KEEPING IT COOL AROUND THE GROUNDS
Off the court, several of the top ATP players faced off against some of the NHL’s biggest stars in ball hockey presented by Knapper in front of a packed crowd on Court 2. Top seeds Casper Ruud and Hubert Hurkacz showed off some pretty sweet skills against Jonathan Huberdeau, Jonathan Drouin, and more of hockey’s best.
Meanwhile, some lucky fans were able to snag Roberto Bautista Agut’s autograph.
A HAPPY HOUR MOMENT
The kids got a tennis lesson from Jannik Sinner and Gael Monfils on the mini tennis courts. A moment they won’t soon forget!
