It was a day to remember for Caroline Wozniacki on Tuesday at IGA Stadium in Montreal as the 33-year-old began her comeback to the WTA Tour with an impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory over Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell.
It was as if she never left given the vintage form that she showed throughout. Apart from one important difference: the presence of her family.
During her post-match press conference, the former World No. 1 discussed how her morning routine was different before she stepped onto the court with her two kids, Olivia and James now in the picture.

“It was so strange because I went to bed last night, and I go, wait, so the kids have to wake up, and then we eat breakfast together, and then, wait, how does that fit in with my schedule?,” Wozniacki explained. “And I tried to explain to Olivia I was going to play a match, and she goes: Okay, Mama, I have a wish. I wish you win. I was, like, where does she get that from? That was pretty cool. Just different.”

The 2010 National Bank Open champion discussed balancing family time with tennis and the opportunity to watch her children grow up while travelling the world. She also mentioned her father, Piotr, who has been a constant throughout her career and his reaction to her desire to give tennis another shot as a mom.
“He was, like, well, if you are sure, but, like, you've got to take it seriously. I just looked at him and go, when do I not take stuff seriously when I put my mind to it? He looked at me and said, yeah, that's a good point,” Wozniacki added.
After her performance on Tuesday, Piotr might be wise to never doubt his daughter’s convictions again.
