Compelling WTA Doubles Field Ready for Action in Montreal

While the best players in the world will be competing in singles at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers, the doubles field in Montreal promises to be exciting as well with several interesting teams set to take to the courts at IGA Stadium.

Leading the way is the formidable American duo of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula who have two titles on Tour this season in Doha and Miami in addition to two runner-up appearances in Madrid and Rome. They’ve also reached two Grand Slam semifinals at the Australian Open and Roland-Garros. Gauff and Pegula are the defending National Bank Open champions after claiming top honours in Toronto last year and they will be looking for repeat performance in 2023.

There will also be some Canadian content in the draw led by Leylah Annie Fernandez and her partner, Taylor Townsend who have been one of the WTA’s breakthrough teams this season. They were finalists in Miami and at Roland-Garros where they came close to winning their first Major crown together and currently sit fifth in Meanwhile, Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski, who took home the Montreal doubles title in 2021, will pair up with her compatriot Erin Routliffe who now represents New Zealand on the international scene.

The American veteran won the NBO doubles trophy in 2015 with Lucie Safarova. More interesting duos include 2010 Montreal singles finalist Vera Zvonareva and Laura Siegemund as well as Veronika Kudermetova and Liudmila Samsonova, two top 20 singles players who are ready to showcase their doubles prowess.
