2025 National Bank Open Toronto Players: Meet the Canadian Men

In just under a week’s time, the ATP Tour will land in Toronto for the 2025 National Bank Open.

The initial player list was released on Wednesday, July 2, and includes all of the Top 73 players in the ATP rankings. Over the past month, we highlighted players who are expected to be competing in Toronto at the end of July.

This week, let’s meet the Canadians heading into the National Bank Open.

*Note: Records include ATP Challenger and ITF matches

Félix Auger-Aliassime

  • Age: 24
  • Current Ranking: 28
  • Career-High: 6
  • NBO Main Draw Appearance: 7th
  • Best NBO Result: QF (2022)
  • Most Recent NBO Result: 1R (2024)
  • 2025 Record: 26-17
  • Career NBO Record: 5-6

For the fourth-straight time, Félix Auger-Aliassime heads into the National Bank Open as the Canadian No. 1. The Montreal-native has had a solid year so far, making seven semifinal appearances which is the second-most on tour behind Carlos Alcaraz.

Of his seven semifinals, Auger-Aliassime has reached three finals, all on hard court. The 24-year-old won the title in Adelaide and Montpellier before finishing as runner-up in Dubai.

The world No. 28 made his first Masters 1000 final in Madrid last year and, with his favourite tournament just around the corner, Auger-Aliassime could make another deep run at a big event.

Denis Shapovalov

  • Age: 26
  • Current Ranking: 33
  • Career-High: 10
  • NBO Main Draw Appearance: 8th
  • Best NBO Result: SF (2017)
  • Most Recent NBO Result: 1R (2024)
  • 2025 Record: 15-14
  • Career NBO Record: 8-7

It has been eight years since Denis Shapovalov made his mark on the ATP Tour on home soil. At just 18-years-old, Shapovalov reached his maiden Masters 1000 semifinal at the 2017 National Bank Open, beating Rafael Nadal in the process before losing to eventual champion Alexander Zverev.

The Canadian has since made a Masters 1000 final in Paris in 2019 and has three tour titles to his name, including winning his first 500 title in Dallas earlier this year. Shapovalov is also currently in the semifinal in Los Cabos.

The 26-year-old comes into Toronto as the host province’s top player, having earned Richmond Hill Sports Hall of Fame honours in 2016.

Gabriel Diallo

  • Age: 23
  • Current Ranking: 38
  • Career-High: 38
  • NBO Main Draw Appearance: 3rd

It’s safe to say that Gabriel Diallo has had a career year in 2025. Madrid was where the Montreal-native reached his maiden Masters 1000 quarter-final. Then, the 23-year-old hoisted his first ATP Tour title in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

Diallo now sits at a career-high ranking of 38th and has much higher expectations ahead of the National Bank Open.

The Canadian earned his first ATP main draw and Top 25 win in Toronto in 2023, making his return to the Ontarian capital this year a sentimental one.

  • NBO Main Draw Appearance: 1st

Draxl has made six Challenger finals this year, finally getting a win earlier this month in Winnipeg.

The 23-year-old is sitting a career-high 121st in the rankings and, if he continues his great form on Canadian soil, a solid run in Toronto could help him crack the Top 100.

Vasek Pospisil

  • Age: 35
  • Current Ranking: 1248
  • Career-High: 25
  • NBO Main Draw Appearance: 14th

One of Canadian tennis’ most iconic figures, Vasek Pospisil’s last dance on the tour will come in Toronto.

The 35-year-old has had some memorable moments at the National Bank Open in both the singles and doubles draw. Pospisil reached the singles semifinal in 2013, losing to fellow Canuck Milos Raonic. The Vernon-native also made the final four in doubles with Daniel Nestor in 2016.

Pospisil was granted a main draw wildcard into the 2025 National Bank Open as the former world No. 25 will call it a career following the tournament.

Alexis Galarneau

  • Age: 26
  • Current Ranking: 204
  • Career-High: 153
  • NBO Main Draw Appearance: 3rd
  • Best NBO Result: 1R (Twice)

  • Career NBO Record: 0-2

Alexis Galarneau earned his third main draw wildcard into the Canadian Open this year. The Laval-native has not made it out of the first round in his previous two appearances but impressed in both matches, losing in two-tight sets to Grigor Dimitrov and managing a set against Francisco Cerundolo.

Galarneau has notable hard-court wins against Lorenzo Sonego and Alejandro Tabilo at the Davis Cup and the 26-year-old will look to add another big win on the concrete in Toronto.

Nicolas Arseneault

  • Age: 18
  • Current Ranking: 636
  • Career-High: 621
  • NBO Main Draw Appearance: 1st

The youngest Canadian in the field in Toronto, 18-year-old Nicolas Arseneault was granted a main-draw wildcard for the 2025 National Bank Open, making his ATP Tour main-draw debut on home soil.

In his still young career, the Richmond Hill-native reached his first ITF final in Santo Domingo in June before making the quarter-final in Laval.

Arseneault is a two-time under 18 Fischer Junior National champion, winning the Indoor Championships in 2023 and Outdoor Championships in 2024.
