Montreal Day 9 recap served up by IGA: The quarter-finals are set at the NBO

It’s down to the final eight at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montreal.

A quartet of singles matches were played on Sunday at IGA Stadium to complete the lineup with Australian Open champion Madison Keys, four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka, Denmark’s Clara Tauson, and former world no. 3 Elina Svitolina claiming victories.

Keys saved match points to come out on top against Czech Karolina Muchova and reach her first quarter-final on Canadian soil since reaching the Montreal final in 2016.

The American will next face Tauson on Tuesday in what promises to be a hard-hitting affair. The fast-rising Dane upset no. 2 seed Iga Swiatek in impressive fashion to score her first win over the Pole her second over a top 5 player.

Tuesday’s second quarter-final will see Osaka go up against 2017 NBO champion Elina Svitolina after the world no. 13 beat reigning NBO finalist Amanda Anisimova 6-4, 6-1 to conclude day 9 under the lights. Svitolina will be making her fourth NBO quarter-final appearance on Tuesday and her fourth WTA 1000 quarter-final showing of the season.

Coffee Party wraps up TennisFest Weekend

The NBO hosted its first coffee party with the help of Croissound to wrap up TennisFest Weekend the best way possible. Fans danced the morning away on Courts 3 and 4 while enjoying a coffee. It certainly set the tone for the day.
