Welcome to This Week in Tennis, where we catch up on all the latest and biggest stories from the ATP and WTA Tours.
Bublik continues remarkable season
Alexander Bublik continued his career-best season by defeating French qualifier Valentin Royer 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) to capture the Hangzhou Open. The 28-year-old Kazakhstani did not drop a service game throughout the tournament, joining Taylor Fritz as the only ATP Tour winners this season to complete a tournament win without getting broken.
Bublik rose to a career-high 16th in the ATP rankings by clinching his fourth trophy of the season and joined world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz as the second men’s player with four or more wins in 2025.
Elsewhere on the ATP Tour, Alejandro Tabilo captured his first title of the season by upsetting ninth-ranked Lorenzo Musetti in the Chengdu Open final. Tabilo rose 40 spots to No. 72 with the victory, returning to the top 100 for the first time since June.
Musetti has not won a tour-level title since 2022.

Alcaraz pushes past ankle injury to reach Tokyo Final vs. Fritz
Carlos Alcaraz hasn’t been slowed down by the minor ankle injury he sustained in his opening match in Tokyo, as he will play in tomorrow morning’s final against Taylor Fritz following a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Casper Ruud early Monday morning.
The world No. 1 set a career-best with his 66th victory of the season and will play for his eighth title of the season when he faces off with Fritz on Tuesday morning.
Fritz, the world No. 5, reached his first hard-court final of 2025 with a win over Jenson Brooksby.
The two faced off last week at the Laver Cup with the American earning the victory. Alcaraz won their only other head-to-head match in 2025, taking a four-set contest in the semifinals at Wimbledon.
