This Week in Tennis: First-time winners emerge

Welcome to This Week in Tennis, where we catch up on all the latest and biggest stories from the ATP and WTA Tours.

Jovic wins in Guadalajara

Iva Jovic beat Emiliana Arango 6-4, 6-1 in the final of the Guadalajara Open to capture her first WTA title. The 17-year-old jumped to a career-high rank of 36th after the victory. Jovic is the youngest player ranked inside the Top 100 and the youngest singles champion this season, supplanting Mirra Andreeva by a mere 16 days.

Canadian Marina Stakusic had the odds stacked against her in Guadalajara, but managed to reach the quarter-final at the 500-level event before bowing out to eventual finalist Arango.

The Mississauga, Ont. native needed to play two matches on Friday because of rain delays but was unable to win both. She opened her day with a win over third-seeded Jelena Ostapenko before falling in the quarter-final.

In Brazil, Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah captured her first WTA title by defeating Janice Tjen 6-3, 6-4 in the Sao Paolo Open final. The win vaulted the 19-year-old up 83 spots in the rankings to No. 131.

Teenagers are now 7-0 in singles finals on the WTA Tour this season.

The Asian leg of the WTA tour kicks off this week with the 500-level Korea Open Tennis Championships taking place in Seoul.
