Toronto Day 11 Recap served up by Sobeys: Fritz, Shelton Round Out Final Four

The semifinal matches are set in Toronto. Top seed Alexander Zverev will take on Karen Khachanov, while No. 2 seed Taylor Fritz will clash with Ben Shelton.

It was a busy day at Sobeys Stadium. The last two spots in the final four were claimed on Tuesday night by Fritz and Shelton, setting up a super semifinal night tomorrow. In doubles, the first finalists claimed their spot in the title match. Finally, the first wheelchair champion in NBO history was crowned.

Here is the Day 11 recap served up by Sobeys.

Taylor Fritz was dialled in to start his quarter-final with Andrey Rublev, racing out to a 3-0 lead and dominating on serve right up until he had to close it out. The second seed served for the match at 5-4 in the second set but suddenly dropped his level, allowing Rublev to break back and level at five. But Fritz refound his form in time to take the tiebreak and advance to the semis with a straight-set win.

For a spot in the final, Fritz will clash with his fourth-seeded countryman Ben Shelton. Shelton’s offensive prowess won out in the final match of the day against the speed demon Alex de Minaur in straight sets.

Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool were the first players to punch their tickets to the final at the 2025 National Bank Open on Tuesday. The second seeds defeated the fourth-seeded pair of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz in straight sets in their semifinal. The doubles semis are split over two days.

A champion was crowned at the National Bank Open’s inaugural wheelchair tennis tournament on Tuesday. Thomas Venos secured top spot after defeating Barry Henderson 7-2, 7-3 in the lone singles match of Day 3.

In doubles, Anne-Marie Dolinar made her first appearance at the tournament. The Canadian women’s No. 1 partnered with Venos to take on Shawn Courchesne and Henderson, with the latter pair coming out with the straight-set win.

The five who competed in the wheelchair tennis showcase were then honoured on Centre Court prior to the start of Fritz against Rublev.
