The French star will say farewell to Montréal fans before retiring at the end of the season.

Tennis Canada announced that former World No. 6 Gaël Monfils has received wild card for the main draw of the 2026 National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montréal, which is taking place at IGA Stadium from August 1 to 13.

Last fall, Monfils announced that the 2026 season would be his last on the professional tour. Montréal fans will have one final opportunity to watch him compete on Centre Court at IGA Stadium, where he has left his mark on the tournament with his spectacular style of play and showmanship.

Now 39, Monfils has won 13 ATP singles titles and is currently ranked No.226. This year will mark his 15th appearance at the National Bank Open and 8th visit to Montréal, where he has a 24–13 career record. He has enjoyed considerable success in Canada, reaching the semifinals in 2016 and 2019 and advancing to three quarterfinals, in 2011, 2021 and 2023.

“I’m thrilled to have received a main draw wild card for the National Bank Open in Montréal,” said Monfils. “I made my debut here in 2009, and over the years I’ve experienced some of the most memorable moments of my career in this city. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to come back one last time to play in front of the Montréal fans, who are some of the best in the world, and thank them for all the support they’ve shown me over the years.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Gaël back to Montréal this year,” said Valérie Tétreault, Tournament Director of the National Bank Open in Montréal. “Gaël is an exceptional athlete who’s enjoyed tremendous success in Canada and put on a memorable show every time he’s competed in Montréal. We know how much he loves our city and the incredible support of our fans, and that feeling is very much mutual. We’re confident they’ll come out in large numbers to see him one last time and thank him for all the unforgettable moments he’s given us over the years.”
