Jodar Conquers Unfamiliar Territory in Montreal

Not only was he playing the first match of his career at IGA Stadium, he was also playing his first match as a Top 15 player thanks to an impressive run to the Washington final which was delayed to Monday because of weather. He passed the test with flying colours thanks to a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet to reach round three. 

“I'm happy about the win, first win in Montreal. It's not easy, you know, and when you play the final on Monday because of the rain, and you have to play Wednesday here. But it is what it is. I accept it in the best way possible,” Jodar said after the match. “I tried to get used to the conditions yesterday and today during the match and in the warmup. So, I am happy how I handled the pressure and everything today.”

Jodar has already collected 31 wins this season, highlighted by his first ATP title in Marrakech, his maiden 500-level final in Washington, and his first Grand Slam quarter-final at Roland-Garros. He started 2026 ranked no. 165 in the world and seems to be enjoying the grind of getting match reps in to gain experience, at least for now.

I think playing a lot of matches really lets you to get fitter, you know, during the matches and to get physically better. So, I think that's really helping me”, Jodar added. 

With many of the tournament’s top seeds going down, leaving a wide open draw, the 19-year-old is making sure not to get too far ahead of himself even though some may view him as one of the favourites for the title. 

“There's still a long way to go. I'll just go over match by match,” Jodar said. “Everyone here, they are the best players in the world. So, you have to face the matches with the best mentality possible and with your best level of tennis.”

Jodar will next face Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the feature match on Centre Court Thursday night.
