Montreal Day 3 Recap Served Up by IGA: A Vintage Monfils Performance Lights up Centre Court

Gaël Monfils made sure to extend his final visit to Montreal as a tennis pro thanks to a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak to reach round two of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers.

This city and this tournament have always brought out the best in the Frenchman and he was right at home once more on Centre Court at IGA Stadium. Highlight reel shots and big reactions had the crowd on their feet and Monfils loved every minute of it, embracing the atmosphere and his vintage form. 

“Thank you for this atmosphere, thank you for being here, thank you from the bottom heart, you’re incredible!”, Monfils said while addressing the fans during his on-court interview who stayed until midnight to watch him seal the win.

In the second round, her will face the tournament’s no. 12 seed, American Learner Tien.

Joining Monfils in the second round after Monday’s play are: Daniel Altmaier, Marin Cilic, Canadian Gabriel Diallo, Titouan Droguet, who will next face Félix Auger-Aliassime, Vit Kopriva, Yannick Hanfmann, Nicolas Mejla, Alex Michelsen, Corentin Moutet, Cameron Norrie, and Mariano Navone. 

Opening round action wraps on Tuesday in Montreal while the second round begins during the evening session on Centre Court and Rogers Court. 

Local Stars Attend Opening Cocktail 

Prior to the start of Monday’s night session, some of Quebec’s biggest names in entertainment gathered with members of the tennis community for the tournament’s opening cocktail. Among the attendees were Alexandre Despatie, Kevin Raphael, Ariane Brunet, and Katrine Duhaime.
