The National Bank Open presented by Rogers is reaching fever pitch as field of 96 players who began their Toronto campaign is down to just eight.

The first four quarter-finalists will kick off the elite eight on Monday, with former world No. 1 and Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek starting off the night, followed by former NBO champion Elina Svitolina.

On-court Action

Swiatek is one win away from a second straight WTA 1000 semifinal, after reaching the final four in Rome, but standing in the Pole’s path is Diana Shnaider. The world No. 17 upset third seed Jessica Pegula in straights to reach the quarters and is now in search of her first WTA 1000 semifinal since Toronto 2024.

The two have only met once before, with Swiatek taking their lone encounter in Madrid last year. Centre Court play begins at 7 pm.

Svitolina will hope for an earlier night as her last two matches have both started past 10 pm. Last round, the 2017 Toronto champion made light work of world No. 10 Amanda Anisimova, winning in a little over an hour to book a place in her second consecutive NBO quarter-final.

The ninth seed faces Ekaterina Alexandrova, who is fresh off shocking world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a tight three-setter. Svitolina and Alexandrova haven’t crossed paths since 2021, when they met on three occasions – the Ukrainian won twice.

There will only be one doubles match on Monday. Top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Shuai Zhang take on Storm Hunter and Desirae Krawczyk on Grandstand.

The winner will play either Shnaider and Elise Mertens or Tereza Mihalikova and Olivia Nicholls, whose contest was moved to Tuesday to allow Shnaider sufficient rest following her singles quarter-final.
