Matches both familiar and not headline the final day of quarter-final action at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers.

While Belinda Bencic and Coco Gauff meet for the eighth time, Elena Rybakina and Naomi Osaka will clash for the very first time. However, what both matches have in common – they will settle who will punch the last two tickets to the semifinals.

On-court Action

It was only a little over a month ago when Bencic and Gauff last crossed paths, with the American taking their Wimbledon fourth-round contest in three sets. Now, the two meet for the third time this season.

Gauff holds the upper hand over Bencic, winning their last two hard-court encounters – most recently in the Miami quarters this year.

The Floridian is one of two players still alive in singles to have not dropped a set in Toronto, conceding less than eight games in each of her three matches. Gauff’s latest victory was 6-3, 6-1 against teenager Alina Korneeva.

Bencic has been an American’s kryptonite this tournament, beating Sloane Stephens in her opener then Taylor Townsend in round three. The Swiss now battles the American No. 2, looking to build off her straight-sets win over Washington champion Alexandra Eala on Sunday. Centre Court play starts at 7 pm.

The next match is a surprising first meeting between two former Grand Slam champions, Rybakina and Osaka.

The Kazakhstani was on the brink of elimination in round four, trailing by a double break in the third set against Liudmila Samsonova, but managed to escape with the victory. The world No. 2 still believes she has not achieved her best despite making a fifth WTA 100 quarter-final this season.

As for Osaka, she has cruised to the elite eight. The Japanese joins Gauff as the only other player who has yet to drop a set, making four consecutive tour-level quarters for the first time since 2021.
