Sunday, August 9 Toronto Preview: Fernandez Followed by Eala on Centre Court

2026 National Bank Open

Sunday night at Sobeys Stadium is sure to be loud.

Wednesday, August 5 was a prime example of that. Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez took to Centre Court in front of her home crowd. Then, Alexandra Eala was met with a wild roar from the Filipino faithful in Toronto. Now, the two fan favourites are set to headline the night session once again in the round of 16.

What better night to host what will be a passionate crowd than on Fan Appreciation Night presented by Canadian Tire for the final day of CELSIUS TennisFest Weekend.

Here’s what you can look forward to on Sunday, August 9.

On-court Action

Another night of Fernandez and Eala is sure to bring the Filipino-Canadian contingent back to Sobeys Stadium.

The Lavalloise looks to keep her run on home soil going following her biggest win of the season so far against world No. 5 Mirra Andreeva in round three. Fernandez will meet 11th seed Naomi Osaka for a spot in the quarters. She beat the Japanese during her 2021 US Open finals run but lost their latest encounter in Wuhan 2025. Play begins at 7 pm.

Eala fought through a tight three-setter against Caty McNally to extend her stay in Toronto on Friday. The 21-year-old is riding a seven-match win streak, with world No. 14 Belinda Bencic standing in the way of an eighth-straight victory.

Second seed Elena Rybakina will kick off Centre Court action at 12:30 pm on Sunday. The Kazakhstani rallied from 3-5 down in the second set to defeat Ann Li in straights in her last match, setting up a fourth-round contest against Liudmila Samsonova. Following the match, No. 4 seed Coco Gauff tries to put an end to Alina Korneeva’s remarkable campaign. The 19-year-old came through qualifying and upset 13th seed Iva Jovic to reach the round of 16 in just her second WTA 1000 main draw.

Around the Grounds

The National Bank Open celebrates the fans for Fan Appreciation Night, with plenty of activities to try and prizes to win. Court 4 hosts King of the Court from 4:30-5:15 pm as you try to stay undefeated and keep your crown. Then, from 5:30-7 pm, see if your serve has what it takes to win you prizes at Serve & Win.

Both events will also take place during the day session, with King of the Court from 1:30-2:30 pm and Serve & Win from 12-1:15 pm.

Of course, TennisFest Weekend means another day of all-day Happy Hour and live music from the likes of DJ Favia and YASSiN & Sean Terrio.
