Appreciation for our National Bank Open presented by Rogers volunteers never stops but on National Volunteers Week, we especially highlight their incredible commitment to the event.
Each year in Toronto alone, the National Bank Open has over 1500 volunteers dedicated to making every fan’s experience unique.
“Volunteers are a huge part of the NBO and really help bring the tournament to life,” said NBO Toronto Operations Manager Nicole Artuso. “They support so many different areas of the event and play a big role in creating a positive experience for fans, players, and staff. The tournament simply wouldn’t be the same without them.”
The National Bank Open has over 25 different committees from greeting the fans as they walk into Sobeys Stadium, to ensuring courts are ready for upcoming matches. The unforgettable experience that comes with being a part of the event’s operations is just one of the reasons that bring our volunteers back each summer.
“It’s a unique opportunity to be part of a major sporting event, meet amazing people, and be involved in something really fun and rewarding,” said Artuso. “We’re fortunate to have many volunteers return year after year, and I think that having a high retention rate says a lot about the experience people have.”

Another incentive may be the perks of being a National Bank Open volunteer.
On top of getting Tennis Canada swag and meal vouchers, volunteers have reserved seating on Centre Court and receive at least two pairs of tickets. Captains are even given an extra pair, while those in the upper years of volunteer service also gain extra tickets.

Tennis Canada’s goal is for every volunteer to feel appreciated for their dedication and commitment to the National Bank Open, and their efforts never go unnoticed.
Those who have volunteered for 20 or more years are celebrated with breakfast in the VIP Lounge and receive their personalized crystal plaque. The 30-year volunteers have their celebrations taken to Centre Court where they are acknowledged in an on-court presentation during a Saturday-evening session, and they will get their plaques before play begins.
Above all, volunteers build lasting connections at the National Bank Open, coming together to make the event what it is.
“A lot of our volunteers describe the program as their “once a year family,” which says a lot about the friendships and connections built here,” said Artuso. “For many, it starts as volunteering for one summer and quickly becomes something they look forward to every year.”
