Bucsa Sweeps Merida in Historic Weekend
It was quite the weekend for Cristina Bucsa.
The 28-year-old kicked off her Sunday night with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Magdalena Frech in the Merida Open final to win her first WTA Tour singles title.
Hours later, the Spaniard got back on court to complete her sweep of the tournament, winning the doubles title alongside partner Xinyu Jiang.
The pair defeated Isabelle Haverlag and Maia Lumsden 6-4, 6-1 in just 61 minutes for their first trophy as a team. It is the eighth doubles title of Bucsa’s career and the seventh for Jiang.

Bucsa had a difficult road en route to her first singles title. She defeated Wimbledon semifinalist Donna Vekic in the first round, then earned her first Top-10 win with a victory over Jasmine Paolini in the semis.
The Spaniard had previously won a 1000-level tournament and an Olympic bronze medal as a doubles competitor.
Bucsa jumped to a new career-best singles rank of 31st with the win.

Medvedev Claims Title in Dubai
Daniil Medvedev clinched the Dubai Tennis Championship on Saturday after Tallon Griekspoor withdrew ahead of their final due to a hamstring injury.
Griekspoor sustained the injury during his straight-sets semifinal victory over Andrey Rublev, but was unable to recover in time to play the final.
The walkover gave Medvedev his second title of the season and 23rd ATP crown of his career. The former world No. 1 also won Dubai in 2023, marking the first time he’s won the same event multiple times.
“We knew before the start of the week, the way I was practicing, I couldn't miss a ball,” Medvedev said. “We knew it was going to be a great week. It was a great week, and I'm looking forward to the next tournaments to come."
Medvedev will be back on court in Indian Wells, where he is a two-time finalist.

Elsewhere on the ATP Tour, a pair of players won their first title of 2026 as Flavio Cobolli captured the trophy in Acapulco, while Luciano Darderi earned the title in Santiago.
Cobolli defeated American Frances Tiafoe 7-6(4), 6-4 to win his first hard-court ATP title. The 23-year-old Italian became the fourth man born in the 2000’s to win 500-level titles on multiple surfaces, joining world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, second-ranked Jannik Sinner, and Arthur Fils.
Darderi defeated Yannick Hanfmann 7-6(6), 7-5 to win his fifth ATP title. Each of the 24-year-old’s ATP titles have come on clay and, with Sunday’s victory, he now owns the most tour-level clay titles since the start of the 2024 season, one more than Carlos Alcaraz.
