Welcome to This Week in Tennis, where we catch up on all the latest and biggest stories from the ATP and WTA Tours.
Rybakina Wins Second Title in Stuttgart
Elena Rybakina continued her very strong season on Sunday, defeating Karolina Muchova 7-5, 6-1 to win the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.
Rybakina’s previous 12 career titles came at 12 different tournaments and Sunday’s win in Stuttgart marked the first repeat title of her career.
The world No. 2 finished the week with a pair of straight-set wins over Muchova and ninth-ranked Mirra Andreeva following a thrilling three-set quarter-final win over Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez, where she saved two match points before rallying for the victory.
The reigning Australian Open champion has two titles this season and 13 in her career. Stuttgart marks her fifth singles title on clay. The two-time Grand Slam champion now has titles in Melbourne and Stuttgart while also reaching the final at Indian Wells, the semifinal in Miami, and the quarter-final in Qatar in 2026.

Shelton, Fils Building Momentum
A pair of young guns on the ATP Tour will be rolling into Madrid after impressive weekend wins.
Ben Shelton captured his second title of the season with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Flavio Cobolli in Munich, while Arthur Fils won his first title since 2024 with a 6-2, 7-6(2) victory over Andrey Rublev in Barcelona.
Shelton’s win was the fifth of his career and second on clay, becoming the first American man to win a title on the surface above the 250-level since Andre Agassi in Rome in 2002.
“I am happy with my performance this week. I got better and better as the week went on and I am happy with the work me and the team put in,” the 23-year-old Shelton said after the win. “I have big ambitions for the clay courts. It is a surface I want to get better on each year. It is slowly becoming one of my favourite surfaces to play on.”
The world No. 6 is now just 30 points behind Félix Auger-Aliassime in the ATP Rankings and will look to overtake the Canadian and match his career-best of No. 5 with a strong performance in Madrid this week.

Fils, 21, marked another step in his return to form as the Barcelona Open title marks his first championship win since missing eight months in 2025 due to a back injury.
"I want to say big thanks to my team," Fils said. "We did one [expletive] of a job. It's been eight months struggling with injury, but now we are back on the court and we have won the trophy. I am pretty happy about that."
The Frenchman jumped to No. 25 in the ATP Rankings this week, replacing Arthur Rinderknech as the French No. 1 for the first time since Sept. 2025.
