- Volunteers General Info
What are the basic requirements to be a National Bank Open Volunteer?
Most of the volunteer jobs at National Bank Open require a fluency in English if you're in Toronto and a fluency in French if you're in Montreal as well as basic customer service skills, a friendly and professional demeanour, a willingness and ability to follow directions while also abiding by volunteer policies, and a commitment to making the event a wonderful experience for both the public and tournament guests. Of course, an interest in tennis is always welcome!
In Toronto, all volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and be able to work a minimum of 42 hours, split up either into 6 or 7 shifts. In Montreal, all volunteers must be at least 14 years old and must work a minimum of 7 shifts.
What are the perks of being a volunteer?
In recognition of your commitment to us, Tennis Canada is pleased to offer the following benefits to all National Bank Open volunteers:
- Volunteer accreditation pass that gives you access to Sobeys Stadium in Toronto or IGA Stadum in Montreal and the grounds during operating times, including access to the reserved volunteer seating area in both cities to watch the matches outside of your working hours.
- Psycho Bunny uniform package, which includes a hat, two t-shirts and a long-sleeved shirt
- Complimentary volunteer parking in a dedicated area
- Complimentary tickets
- One free meal per shift worked
- An invite to our famous ‘volunteer tournament party’ which includes a fantastic dinner, drinks and great prizes.
- PLUS MUCH MORE!
I'm passionate about tennis but I'm not available during tournament. Is there any way I could volunteer for the organization?
Please contact contact the National Bank Open Volunteer Office directly by emailing volunteers@tenniscanada.com or by calling the Tennis Canada offices at 416-665-9777. In Montreal, you can email us at benevole@tenniscanada.com
Can I bring my own lunch as volunteer?
Yes, you may bring your own food and beverages, but all National Bank Open volunteers are provided one meal and beverage for every shift they work.
If I pay for parking, do I get a refund?
All National Bank Open volunteers have access to free parking (including a shuttle service to and from IGA Stadium in Montreal and Sobeys Stadium in Toronto). Tennis Canada will not reimburse parking expenses.
What happens if I'm only available a few days a week?
In Montreal, all National Bank Open volunteers must be available to work a minimum of 7 shifts. In Toronto, all volunteers must be available to work a minimum of 42 hours over the course of the tournament (consisting of either six 7-hour shifts or seven 6-hour shifts depending on committee).
What happens if I'm only available either during the day or night?
We have many volunteer shifts that take place in the daytime and evenings during the National Bank Open. However, the more availabilty you can provide the easier it is for us to schedule you.
What are minimum hours I'd have to work in a day?
The length of each shift depends on which committee you are part of. However, most shifts are 6-7 hours in length. Because the National Bank Open is an outdoor event, weather sometimes plays a factor and we expect our volunteers to stay "until the end of play" rather than a posted time when play has been delayed.
Will I have access to view a match? To meet players?
Depending on the committee you are in, you may have access to viewing the tennis, but by being a National Bank Open volunteer, Tennis Canada does provide everyone with tickets to view matches when they are not working.
Does my family get perks if I volunteer?
All National Bank Open volunteers are given tickets to watch the tennis, and volunteers may choose to gift those to family or friends. In Toronto, volunteers are also extended a family and friends discount to purchase additional tickets.
