ATP Power Rankings: Alcaraz Trying to Join Elite Wimbledon Company

Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, Bjorn Borg. Lists like that do not get much more elite. And that is the company Carlos Alcaraz is trying to join at Wimbledon over the upcoming fortnight.

Those four men share something in common: they all won at least three straight men’s singles titles at the All-England Club in the Open Era. Alcaraz could join that club this year.

Of course, a certain world No. 1 who pushed the Spaniard to the brink at the most recent major might have something to say about it.

The National Bank Open Power Rankings size up the men’s field for Wimbledon 2025.

(Brackets indicate change in position since the last edition of the Power Rankings from before Roland-Garros.)

1) Carlos Alcaraz (-)

  • Actual Ranking: 2
  • 2025 Record: 42-5
  • Notable Recent Result: ATP 500 Queen's Club Champion
  • Best Wimbledon Result: Champion (Two times)

To no surprise, Alcaraz tops the power rankings for the third-straight time as the former world No. 1 doesn’t seem to slow down when the tour shifts from clay to grass.

The Spaniard took back his crown at the Queen’s Club earlier this month, his second title there in the last three years.

Alcaraz’s success at the All-England Club has been even better. The 22-year-old is the two-time defending champion and can join the legendary Bjorn Borg as the only men in the Open Era to complete the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in successive years.

2. Jannik Sinner (-)

  • Actual Ranking: 1
  • 2025 Record: 19-3
  • Notable Recent Result: ATP 500 Halle R2
  • Best Wimbledon Result: Semifinal (2023)

Sinner is also looking to join an elite club of his own. Just by reaching the final, he would become the sixth man in the Open Era to reach four consecutive Grand Slam finals (Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Federer, Andre Agassi, Rod Laver).

His surprise second-round loss in Halle snapped a nine-tournament finals streak, dating back to Cincinnati last August. Of course, the guy who beat him, Alexander Bublik, went on to win the title, so it’s a fairly forgivable defeat.

Wimbledon is a slam where Sinner has a lot of potential. He has reached three straight quarter-finals at the All-England Club, including the semis in 2023, and his powerful groundstrokes and rock-solid serve are highly conducive to the surface. He absolutely has the game to steal that golden cup.

3. Novak Djokovic (+5)

  • Actual Ranking: 6
  • 2025 Record: 21-8
  • Notable Recent Result: Roland-Garros SF
  • Best Wimbledon Result: Champion (Seven Times)

Djokovic has more Wimbledon titles than the rest of the field combined. While the 38-year-old has started to show his age in 2025, Wimbledon is probably his best chance to win major title No. 25, which would make him the all-time Grand Slam singles title leader, breaking a tie with Margaret Court.

The Serb has also reached six straight finals at the All-England Club. Sure, he did not play a warm-up event on grass but last year he showed up fresh off knee surgery and still reached the final. He likes playing here and is one of, if not THE, most comfortable players in the world on grass. He will just want to avoid Alcaraz, who has beaten him in the last two finals.

- Pete

4) Jack Draper (+1)

  • Actual Ranking: 4
  • 2025 Record: 28-8
  • Notable Recent Result: ATP 500 Queen’s Club SF
  • Best Wimbledon Result: Second round (Two times)

When the grass season comes around, eyes tend to shift to the British No. 1. This year, it’s Draper. Coming in as the home favourite at the Queen’s Club, Draper beat world No. 22 Alexei Popyrin en route to a semifinal finish.

The 23-year-old hasn’t had a deep run at Wimbledon so far in his career, losing in the second round in his last two appearances. But after a solid year so far, Draper is going to give the home crowd something to cheer about.

5) Taylor Fritz (New)

  • Actual Ranking: 5
  • 2025 Record: 21-11
  • Notable Recent Result: Stuttgart champion
  • Best Wimbledon Result: Quarter-final (Two times)

After winning his ninth-career title in Stuttgart earlier in June, Fritz wrote “I’m back” on the camera – and he very well could be.

The American No. 1’s triumph in Stuttgart was his fourth ATP Tour grass title, remaining undefeated in finals on the lawn. Three of those titles came at Eastbourne where Fritz is through to the semifinal on Friday. A second grass title of the year for the Californian will certainly up his expectations heading to the All-England Club.

- Francesco

6. Alexander Zverev (-2)

  • Actual Ranking: 3
  • 2025 Record: 35-13
  • Notable Recent Result: ATP 250 Stuttgart Runner-Up
  • Best Wimbledon Result: Fourth Round (Three Times)

Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam event where Zverev has yet to reach the final. Adding a trophy of any kind from the All-England Club to his collection though could be a bit tricky since he has never made it past the fourth round in SW19.

It is a little surprising that Zverev has not done better at Wimbledon over the years. He is a three-time finalist on grass in his career, although all three finals were in his home country, including earlier this month in Stuttgart, and his solid, hard-hitting game should be well-suited to grass. Maybe without the pressure of grabbing the No. 1 ranking, he can finally put it together this time at Wimbledon.

- Pete

7. Daniil Medvedev (New)

  • Actual Ranking: 9
  • 2025 Record: 23-13
  • Notable Recent Result: ATP 500 Halle Runner-Up
  • Best Wimbledon Result: Semifinal (Twice)

While traditionally considered (by himself) a hard-court specialist, Medvedev has been sneaky good on grass throughout his career. He has reached the semifinals at Wimbledon each of the last two years, losing to Alcaraz both times. The former US Open champion beat Sinner in the quarter-finals last year.

Medvedev also just reached his fourth career final on grass last week in Halle, beating Zverev in three sets in the semifinals.  He has had a tough go at the Slams so far this year, but Wimbledon is a great chance to turn things around. His flat ball should be extra tricky on the slick grass.

- Pete

8) Ben Shelton (New)

  • Actual Ranking: 10
  • 2025 Record: 19-13
  • Notable Recent Result: ATP 250 Stuttgart SF
  • Best Wimbledon Result: Fourth Round (2024)

Part of the ATP Top 10 for the first time in his career, Shelton started the grass season off strong in Stuttgart. The 22-year-old defeated soon-to-be Queen’s Club finalist Jiri Lehecka before losing to home favourite Zverev in two tiebreaks in the semifinal.

However, since then, Shelton had back-to-back first-round losses in London and Mallorca, losing both in straight sets.

But, during this three-match losing skid, the American lost five of those six sets in a tiebreak. If he finds a way to close out those long sets at Wimbledon, Shelton could at least one-up his fourth-round finish last year.

- Francesco

9) Tommy Paul (+1)

  • Actual Ranking: 13
  • 2025 Record: 25-9
  • Notable Recent Result: Eastbourne R2
  • Best Wimbledon Result: Quarter-final (2024)

Paul’s start to the 2025 grass season hasn’t gone as planned. The American No. 4 lost in his opening match in Eastbourne to world No. 170 Daniel Evans. He was also unable to defend his Queen’s Club title due to injury.

That doesn’t take away from his success on the lawn last year, though. Paul defeated Draper and Lorenzo Musetti en route to that title at Queen’s. Then at Wimbledon, the 28-year-old reached the quarter-final before losing to eventual champion Alcaraz, even taking the first set.

- Francesco

10. Lorenzo Musetti (-4)

  • Actual Ranking: 7
  • 2025 Record: 25-8
  • Notable Recent Result: Roland-Garros SF
  • Best Wimbledon Result: Semifinal (2024)

There is a major question mark hanging over Musetti heading into the event where he had his Grand Slam breakthrough a year ago. The Italian has not played since retiring in the semifinals of Roland-Garros with a leg injury. That cost him his runner-up points from the Queen’s Club last year.

If he is healthy, Musetti is probably being undervalued on this list. He reached four straight semifinals, all at “Big” (Masters 1000 or Grand Slam) events, in his last four tournaments. The Italian is also proven on grass, having reached the Queen’s Club final and Wimbledon semis in 2024.
