Main draw play gets underway Sunday at IGA Stadium with a trio of Canadians taking centre stage.
Here are three things you don’t want to miss if you’re coming on-site to experience the National Bank Open presented by Rogers.
Mboko Set to Make Montreal Debut
18-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko, who has taken the tennis world by storm this season, will make her first main draw appearance in Montreal when she takes on Aussie Kimberly Birrell on Centre Court during the day session.
“I feel really excited to be here, my first time in Montreal playing in the main draw. I think it’s a great opportunity for me and I’m really excited to have this chance,” Mboko said during her pre-tournament press conference.
Andreescu Under the Lights on Opening Night
Bianca Andreescu, champion of the NBO in 2019, will contest one of the popcorn matches of the first round against two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova during Sunday’s evening session.
“She (Krejcikova) has a good all-around game style, she’s had great results, so I don’t expect anything easy, but I’ve been preparing really well so I think I have a good shot,” Andreescu explained.
The match will be preceded by an Opening Ceremony which will celebrate 45 years of tennis in Montreal. Make sure to be in your seat by 6:40 p.m.
The Montreal Roses vs. the WTA
Be sure to make your way to Court 2 at 3 p.m. to catch the Montreal Roses taking on some WTA stars in friendly soccer game.
Not to mention face painting, mascots, zootherapy, and much more to wrap up Family Weekend in in association with LEGO Canada in style.
