Montreal at a Glance: Genie takes centre stage and more to watch on Monday

First round action continues Monday at IGA Stadium with a Canadian tennis superstar poised to begin the final tournament of her career under the lights on Centre Court.

Here are a few things you don’t want to miss if you’re coming on-site to experience the National Bank Open presented by Rogers during Community Day when honour the individuals and organizations who have helped shape tennis in Canada. 

Bouchard vs. Arango on tap 

Montreal’s own Eugenie Bouchard will take on Emiliana Arango beginning at 7 p.m. as she begins her tennis swan song at her home tournament. It promises to be a memorable evening filled with emotions. That match will be followed by Carson Branstine taking on former world no. 3 Maria Sakkari. The Canadian made headlines at Wimbledon last month when she qualified for her first Grand Slam main draw and went toe-to-toe with World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the opening round. 

Meanwhile, four-time Major winner Naomi Osaka will highlight Monday’s day session when she goes up against another Canadian, Ariana Arseneault, who qualified for her first WTA 1000 main draw on Saturday. 

Katie Boulter, Sorana Cirstea, Anastasia Potapova, and Canada’s Kayla Cross will also hit the courts. 

Mental Health Panel 

As part of its Mental Timeout initiative supported by Beneva, Tennis Canada will host a Mental Health Panel at 2 p.m. with two-time NBO champion Jessica Pegula in the VIP Lounge presented Audi. Admission is free for all ticketholders.

Fresh off her title victory in Washington, Leylah Annie Fernandez was on-site early Monday morning to take part in a kids' clinic for for her foundation. She certainly put a lot of smiles on a lot of kids' faces.
