It’s been four years since Toronto fans got to cheer on their favourite son at the National Bank Open, but that wait will end on Tuesday night.
Denis Shapovalov will kick off the night session this evening at 7 pm, his first match in his hometown since 2021.
Here’s what to expect on Tuesday at the 2025 National Bank Open in Toronto.
On-Court Action
Not only has it been four years since Shapovalov last played at his home event, it’s been even longer since he got to play in front of a full house. The Richmond Hillian’s last appearance in Toronto was in 2021 when capacity was limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last time he played in front of a normal-sized crowd was 2018, seven years ago.
Shapovalov’s homecoming will come against Learner Tien, a fellow lefty who has scored wins this year over Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev this year. They will kick off the night session at 7:00 pm.
That night session is stacked. Following the Shapovalov-Tien match will be top seed Alexander Zverev taking on Adam Walton. Tickets are still available so don’t miss out!

The day will begin with a blockbuster between big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard against fifth seed Holger Rune. That match will be followed by No. 3 seed Lorenzo Musetti against qualifier James Duckworth.
One match on the Motorola razr Grandstand Court that fans should not miss is defending champion Alexei Popyrin kicking off his campaign against Canadian wildcard Nicolas Arseneault. The 18-year-old Canuck won his first tour-level match on Sunday.
The Grandstand schedule is full of big-name players including Casper Ruud, Medvedev, and Karen Khachanov.

Tuesday is Rogers First Set Day, celebrating the national program to get youth across Canada into tennis. There will be related activities on-site associated with the program and demos between the matches on Centre Court during the day session.
