43. That’s the number Carlos Alcaraz is currently chasing. But it is still a pretty long way away.
The world No. 1 is undefeated in 2026 coming into the Sunshine Double, a perfect 12-0, having won the two tournaments he entered.
But in order to challenge John McEnroe’s record of 42 consecutive wins to start a season back in 1984, he will need to become the first man in nearly a decade to complete the Sunshine Double sweep.
Can he do it? His rivals are certainly lining up to make sure he doesn’t. Here are the 2026 ATP Sunshine Double Power Rankings.
(Brackets indicate change in position since the last edition of the Power Rankings from before the Australian Open.)
1. Carlos Alcaraz (+1)
- Actual Ranking: 1
- 2026 Record: 12-0
- Notable Recent Result: Australian Open Champion
- Best Sunshine Double Result: Indian Wells (Twice) and Miami (2022) Champion
The way Carlos Alcaraz has kicked off the 2026 season speaks for itself. The world No. 1 remains perfect heading into the year’s first ATP Masters 1000, a run that includes completing the Career Grand Slam at the Australian Open, then hoisting the trophy in Doha. The 22-year-old has also not lost an outdoor hard-court match since the Miami Open last year – that’s 30 matches unbeaten.
The Spaniard picked up silverware in either Indian Wells or Miami for three straight years from 2022-24 but has never reached both finals in the same year at the Sunshine Double. However, Alcaraz is riding his best-ever start to a season and his current form could add two more titles to his name in 2026.
He’ll also have to hope that the bees don’t come back for round two.
- Francesco
2. Jannik Sinner (-1)
- Actual Ranking: 2
- 2026 Record: 7-2
- Notable Recent Result: Australian Open SF
- Best Sunshine Double Result: Miami Champion (2024)
Jannik Sinner didn’t get the opportunity to defend his 2024 Miami Open title last year, but the world No. 2 is back in the sunshine in 2026.
The 24-year-old was virtually unplayable in the hard-court events he did play last season, losing just three of his 43 matches on the concrete, with two of those losses being via retirement.

Despite not having as prolific a start to 2026 – he fell short of the Australian Open final and was stunned by Jakub Mensik in the Doha quarters – the Italian proved last year that, when he most needs a title, he can go out and get it.
Sinner was in a similar situation on the grass last season, suffering a shock second-round exit in Halle before overcoming Alcaraz for the Wimbledon title, so the former world No. 1 can find his level at the next big events.
- Francesco
3. Novak Djokovic (-)
- Actual Ranking: 3
- 2026 Record: 5-1
- Notable Recent Result: Australian Open Runner-up
- Best Sunshine Double Result: Indian Wells (Five times) and Miami (Six times) Champion
Novak Djokovic rolled back the years at the Australian Open and who’s to say he won’t do the same during the Sunshine Double.
The 38-year-old snapped a five-match losing skid against Sinner – with three of those losses coming in Grand Slam semifinals – to reach the final in Melbourne, taking down the Italian in five sets. Djokovic took a set off Alcaraz in the title match, proving he can definitely still compete with the “New Two” despite falling short of an 11th Aussie Open trophy.

The Serb opted to rest prior to Indian Wells, a decision that worked out quite well before the Australian Open. Djokovic will again be a contender just based on history alone, once achieving the Sunshine Double for three straight years from 2014-2016.
- Francesco
4. Félix Auger-Aliassime (-)
- Actual Ranking: 9
- 2026 Record: 12-4
- Notable Recent Result: ATP 250 Montpellier Champion
- Best Sunshine Double Result: Miami SF (2019)
Félix Auger-Aliassime just keeps winning tennis matches. While his quarter-final streak was snapped at the Australian Open, he bounced back with a successful title defence in Montpellier, another final in Rotterdam, and a semi in Dubai. Now, he will hope to carry that consistency into the bigger events.
Technically, no one has beaten Auger-Aliassime in a completed match before the quarter-finals since July 2025, as his first-round exit in Melbourne came via retirement.
Considering his strength on hard courts, the Sunshine Double has not been kind to the Canadian over the years. He has only made it past the third round once at each leg, which is particularly surprising given he reached the Miami semifinals in his 2019 debut.
- Pete
5. Ben Shelton (+4)
- Actual Ranking: 8
- 2026 Record: 10-2
- Notable Recent Result: ATP 500 Dallas Champion
- Best Sunshine Double Result: Indian Wells QF (2025)
The reigning National Bank Open champion arrives in Indian Wells fresh off his first title of the year, but it was not an easy one. Shelton won four straight three-setters on his way to the title, coming back from a set down in the last three. He also reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
Every year, Shelton has gone farther in Indian Wells. If that pattern continues, that would make him a solid bet to reach the final four. Miami has been a bit trickier for the serve machine, as he has never made it past the third round. But if his game in firing on all cylinders, Shelton is capable of blowing anyone off the court.
- Pete
6. Alexander Zverev (-1)
- Actual Ranking: 4
- 2026 Record: 7-3
- Notable Recent Result: Australian Open SF
- Best Sunshine Double Result: Miami Runner-Up (2018)
For a player so consistent and so successful on hard courts, Zverev has had a surprisingly difficult time in his career during the Sunshine Double. The German has never made it past the quarter-finals of Indian Wells, having only gotten that far twice. He has had a bit more success in Miami, reaching the final back in 2018, but he tends to fluctuate between deep runs and early losses on the east coast.

That being said, he lost in the second round last year, which would make him due for a deep run in 2026.
Even though Zverev is coming off a shock loss early in Acapulco, his performance at the Australian Open was encouraging. He reached the semifinals for the third year in a row and was oh so close to knocking off the eventual champion Alcaraz in a thrilling five-setter.
- Pete
7. Alex de Minaur (-)
- Actual Ranking: 6
- 2026 Record: 11-3
- Notable Recent Result: ATP 500 Rotterdam Champion
- Best Sunshine Double Result: Indian Wells (Four times) and Miami (Twice) R4
Is a Sunshine Double breakthrough on the horizon for the Demon? De Minaur has made many trips to the last sixteen in both Indian Wells and Miami but still has not yet managed to reach the quarter-finals at either.
The fact that he will be a Top 8 seed will help, as he won’t have to face a higher-ranked player until the quarters. With the exception of his surprise loss in Acapulco, de Minaur has had a good start to the season. He reached the quarter-finals in Melbourne, losing to the eventual champion Alcaraz, and beat the indoor hard-court monster Auger-Aliassime to win Rotterdam.
In the challenging conditions of the American south, the Aussie’s fitness and hustle makes him someone nobody wants to see across the net.
- Pete
8. Taylor Fritz (+2)
- Actual Ranking: 7
- 2026 Record: 9-6
- Notable Recent Result: Dallas Runner-up
- Best Sunshine Double Result: Indian Wells Champion (2022)
Past results suggest that Taylor Fritz will be at his best on home soil despite a relatively slow start to the season. Since 2021, the Californian has failed to make the fourth round in either Sunshine Double event just once, highlighted by an Indian Wells title in his home state in 2022 and semifinal finish in Miami last year. Not to mention, Fritz has made three-straight US Open quarter-finals, including a trip to the final in 2024.

The American No. 1 already delivered a strong performance on home soil this year, reaching the Dallas final, so Fritz will be more than ready to hit the courts of Indian Wells for the season’s first ATP Masters 1000.
- Francesco
9. Daniil Medvedev (-1)
- Actual Ranking: 11
- 2026 Record: 13-3
- Notable Recent Result: ATP 500 Dubai Champion
- Best Sunshine Double Result: Miami Champion (2023)
Assuming he is feeling ok after what must have been a harrowing trip to Indian Wells from Dubai, Daniil Medvedev appears primed to make a statement during the Sunshine Double.
Unlike many of his peers, Medvedev has a brilliant record during his stretch of the season. He has reached the semifinals or better three years in a row, including back-to-back finals in 2023-2024, in Indian Wells and had reached four straight quarter-finals in Miami, including a title in 2023, prior to a surprise loss last year.
The universe would now allow him to win Miami since his victory in Dubai snapped his absurd record of never having won the same tournament twice (although he has technically not won a final in the same city twice since he won the Dubai title with a walkover) and an Indian Wells title would feel very fitting, if not inevitable, given that it is the only hard-court Masters 1000 that he has never won.
- Pete
10. Lorenzo Musetti (-4)
- Actual Ranking: 5
- 2026 Record: 7-2
- Notable Recent Result: Australian Open QF
- Best Sunshine Double Result: Miami 4R (Twice)
A healthy Lorenzo Musetti will always be a threat to the Indian Wells and Miami field. The Italian made the final in Hong Kong to start the year, defeating Andrey Rublev from a set down in the semis, then dispatched Fritz in the fourth round of the Australian Open before his retirement in the quarter-finals.

Musetti was deemed healthy for Indian Wells and will be looking to reach his first quarter-final during the Sunshine Double. The world No. 5 might have to beat Arthur Fils then either Auger-Aliassime or Rublev if he were to reach the last eight.
